Could someone tell me about the heart of America race series. What type of RC
events it promotes...the geographical areas served...is there a website for
this series\organization?

Thanks,

Mike

The Heart of America series is a onroad event and has been around for over 20
years don't know for sure how long. I am trying to find out and will do a
history on it or get someone else to do it. We run 1/8 4WD and 2WD, 1/10 gas
and eletric. We also have a rule that if three or more people show up with
cars in a class we are not running, we will let them race. Most of our races
are held in the RAOR region 8 NE, MO, MI, IA and SD. You must be a member of
ROAR and membership is available at the tracks. I'm hoping to have a 98
schedule soon and will post as soon as I get it. Ben and I where planning of
putting up a web site as we will be doing a newsletter, but with Mike's offer
of posting them here we may not do so. (we'll see after next ONROAD club
meeting in Omaha the last thurs. of Jan.)

Don't let this conference discourage you from setting up a website. You
can have both, with things being linked back and forth from one to the
other. There are some things that are "better" when done on a web site,
or at least they're better at the present time - who knows what tricks
Jan is likely to come up with for the Backtalk software!!

For example, if you want to make a fancy race flyer, with different size
text, pictures, and so on, maybe even with animated gifs, you can do
that much better by editing a web page than by creating it here as a
text-only entry... but the advantage here, is that people can ask you
questions right here! Heck, they could even sign up for the race right
here!

Er, by the way, gee, it's interesting that Michigan quit their past
region, and moved in with you guys! Did you relocate the whole state,
or just the state's abbreviation, "MI"? :-)

I need the location of the Kansas City race. Directions would be great
also. Is the HOA series putting out a monthly newsletter?

#8 of 37 by genel (genel) on Thu Apr 2 16:12:37 1998:

The guys in Kansas City have not told us for sure where the race is
going to be held. I've heard that it could be at the Wal Mart parking
lot just off I 35 in north Kansas City. Or on the parking lot of one
of the Casino in the Kansas City area. I hope to hear from them by
this weekend and will post it here. Ben and I will try and do a
newsletter this summer but will need the address of all who want a
copy. All the details have not been worked out yet.

The Kansas City Model Racing Association held the First Annual Heart of America
Championship for 1/8th scale R/C cars at King Radio, Olathe, Kansas (a suburb
of K.C.) on November 13,14, 1971

The club had 15 members at the time. Bill Stuckwisch was President of the Club.

Thank you Judy I did not know that it is hard to find any history on
the early HOA races.

I must miss the Sioux Falls race this weekend. Can anyone tell me where the Des
Moines race will be held?

#12 of 37 by genel (genel) on Mon Jun 8 15:02:38 1998:

Sioux Falls didn't play any tricks on us this weakend. Rain was
scheduled and happened as usual on Main day. The qualifiers were fun
though as I TQ'ed turning the only 18 laper in 4wd. Bob R. did very
well and the same for Chris. More to come...

#14 of 37 by Ben Langston (balistic) on Thu Jun 25 13:27:14 1998:

Hello everyone, sorry about the incovinence but we are uploading win98
and so we will not be able to respond to any inquerys right away. Thank
you for you patence if one of the other HOA guys sees your message
hopefully they we respond for us. Thanks again.

#15 of 37 by Leonard A. Ledoux (lal12849) on Fri Jan 8 18:50:22 1999:

I raced Heart of America 1985 thru 1989. I raced in St. Louis, Kansas
City, Minneapolis. At the time I was racing Lincoln and Omaha had
fallen out, Minneapolis was racing only the H.O.A., and Doc Opheim was
just getting started with his event.

Larry Martin, Springfield or Lincoln, Illinois used to have a board
which listed all the H.O.A. winners on it, I'm sure in one of my photo
albums I have pictures of it in the background. Mike Saputo (Mico
Enterprises) can put you in touch with Larry (I'm not sure if Larry is
racing anymore). In Kansas City, Arlynn Simon would certainly be a
wealth of information.

#16 of 37 by Debbie Thornton (deb) on Fri Jan 22 11:07:25 1999:

Gene, are you guys going to post a schedule for this year? When is the first
race and where at? Thanks.

#17 of 37 by Doug Wilson (dwilson) on Fri Jan 22 13:48:48 1999:

Mark Z sent me an e-mail a couple weeks ago that they were working on
it, but haven't heard any more since.

#18 of 37 by Leonard A. Ledoux (lal12849) on Fri Jan 22 14:35:21 1999:

I am considering taking a couple of "sick days" to fly into KC to race
with all the old crowd, Saputo, Ramsey, Frizzell, Opheim, Blacketter?,
Simon. So I would really like to see that schedule if it's not too much
trouble. My E-mail is ladoladont@msn.com. Thanks.

#19 of 37 by genel (genel) on Sat Jan 30 07:43:28 1999:

I haven't heard anything yet on dates don't know why. Ben is in school
now so has only been to one race this winter the Kansas City World of
Wheels. He ran three year old batt. agaist some very fast guys and
still got forth in 4 cell mod. He did have the new CRC car. I will try
and call Mark this weekend and see if they have any dates for the races.

#20 of 37 by Charlie Cain (blind) on Mon Feb 8 19:13:26 1999:

#21 of 37 by genel (genel) on Tue Feb 9 12:08:38 1999:

No Ben is in school and is doing four years in two taking a engneering
course, so don't know what races we will make this year. I think we or
planning on the Texas Biggie as it is only a little over a weekend. It
will be hard to go to any that or a week long, will see.

Does anyone know if there is going to be a gas sedan class for the
H.O.A. series in 99. I hope to start my son in this class if there is
one. If so, will they run 2 speeds and rubber or foam tires? I plan on
running 1/8th 4wheel Integra (never ran it b4). So if I break I can
steal my son's sedan and race it he he he!

#26 of 37 by genel (genel) on Thu Feb 18 15:04:17 1999:

Dave I beleive that there is going to be a sedan class, or at lest we
will try and have one. The HOA has always tried to allow anyone who
shows up to race. We would like to have at lest three cars in each
class.

#27 of 37 by Doug Wilson (dwilson) on Thu Feb 18 18:48:49 1999:

Dave, I have heard there are electric groups in KC and Omaha. I don't
know about gas, though. Just in case that influences what you buy if you
haven't bought one already..

#28 of 37 by Mike Maertz (haywyre) on Wed Feb 24 16:11:55 1999:

David your son will be a lot less trouble than you are. he's become a
good driver. But still thinks the trigger is a swich!! Hmmmmmm, like
father like son.

#29 of 37 by David Perryman (dperyman) on Mon Mar 15 08:10:07 1999:

Mike, good one lol :) Hope we get some interest in the sedan's this
year. Darn just dont want to hassle with the elec. ones cya
